LP-DS100 Doppler Radar Speed Sensor

Speed Measurement

The LP-DS100 Non-contact Speed Sensor is a Doppler radar sensor suitable for a wide variety of speed measurement applications.

The LP-DS100 Speed sensor may be placed on a moving vehicle to measure vehicle ground speed. It may also be mounted in a stationary position to measure the speed of a moving object which can be anything from a thin wire passing under the sensor to a vehicle 300 meters away. The output of the sensor is a pulse with a frequency proportional to the measured speed. The cumulative number of pulses may be used to determine distance traveled or the length of a moving surface.

The LP-DS100 speed sensor may be used with many different types of off-the-shelf hardware such as timers, counters, or digital tachometers. It can also be integrated into electronic control or data acquisition systems.

The Adjustable Magnetic Mounting Bracket enables quick and versatile setup of the LP-DS100 Speed Sensor. The Pivoting clamp can be secured at a wide range of offset angles.

The speed sensor can be attached quickly to vehicles or other metallic surfaces with the magnetic base. Alternatively, the holes in the lower part of the pivot may be used to achieve a more permanent mount.

The Fixed Angle Mounting Bracket provides secure mounting for the LP-DS100 Non-contact Speed Sensor. The speed sensor can be attached to vehicles or to structures by using ¼ - 20 threaded hole or by using the ¼ inch through holes.

-Application area-

Typical industrial applications include:

• Vehicle Speed Measurement

• Conveyor Speed Measurement

• Traffic Monitoring

• Length or Distance Measurement

• Racecar Performance Tuning

-Measuring principle-

Doppler Shift Principle

The LP-DS100 Speed Sensor is a Doppler radar device that determines a moving object’s speed using the Doppler effect, or Doppler shift.According to the principle of the Doppler effect, when a wave reflects off of, or is emitted by, a moving object, the wave’s frequency is changed, or shifted. A common example of the Doppler effect can be observed when a car drives past a bystander. To the bystander, the car sounds higher in pitch as it approaches and lower in pitch as it recedes.
