LP-DS200 Doppler Radar Speed Sensor is a true-gound speed sensor and active motion detector for moving objects, based on Radar Doppler technology. LP-DS200 deploys a Radar Frontend with planar antennas continously emitting electromagnetic waves at 24 GHz. Due to the movement of the sensor or the object the frequency of the back-scattered waves are doppler shifted. Doppler signal is deployed for speed measurement.
The forward speed of e.g. an indoor transportation vehicle, fork lift, conveyor belt, off-highway vehicle and rail applications is measured contactless thus unsusceptible to wheel / drive slip, effective tyre circumference and sinking in of the tyre. For demanding applications LP-DS200 Doppler Radar Speed Sensor is sealed and potted in a rugged encasing.
LP-DS200 Doppler Radar Speed Sensor is available in variants with pulse, serial RS232 and CAN-Bus output. High speed up to 200 km/h is available.
• Measurement of speed and distance travelled independent on wheel / drive slip • High dynamics and signal update rate • Easy installation in parallel to the object being measured • Unsusceptible against varying properties of the ground surface • Pulse Output according to DIN 9684 / ISO 11786 and serial RS232 • Option: high speed up to 200km/h • Option: CAN-Bus interface • Detection of direction of movement (forward - backward) • Basis for precise output application e.g. spraying, fertilizer application, seeding req uiring forward speed & distance travelled • dead reckoning system component for inertial measurement units IMS in GPS/GNS• S-denied environments e.g. in-doors, tunnels, underground mining ..... • assisting / augmenting GNSS with true-gound-speed • fusing with GNSS and IMS improving positioning accuracy and quality • assistance / augmentation for in-door Real-Time Locating Systems (RTLS) • true-ground-speed - assistance for positioning and navigation in mobile IoT | |

Doppler Shift Principle
The LP-DS200 Speed Sensor is a Doppler radar device that determines a moving object’s speed using the Doppler effect, or Doppler shift.According to the principle of the Doppler effect, when a wave reflects off of, or is emitted by, a moving object, the wave’s frequency is changed, or shifted. A common example of the Doppler effect can be observed when a car drives past a bystander. To the bystander, the car sounds higher in pitch as it approaches and lower in pitch as it recedes.

Mounting
The sensor is to be mounted parallel to the ground facing forward under the vehicle with free view towards the ground. Distances to ground 100 mm to 700 mm. At larger distance the lowest measurable velocity is being increased.
